A LIFE-SIZED AMIGURUMI RAINBOW LIZARD

I designed Beam the Rainbow Monitor for the Amigurumi.com 2025 design contest. The theme was rainbows and I thought it would be fun to make a rainbow lizard. Now the pattern is out so you can make your own colourful critter too!

Beam is the size of a real monitor at 55cm long. He has realistic shaping and cool details like sparkly, smiling eyes, an open mouth and little claws on his toes.

The colour effects are made with solid colours, not variegated yarn. This means you can create any colour gradient you prefer, or even make Beam with contrasting stripes of colour instead of gradients (see some examples from my testers near the end of this post).

This is a low-sew design, so most of it is crocheted together as you go. The eyes and legs will need to be sewn on.

Please enjoy these fun, colourful variations of Beam made by my beautiful team of pattern testers. With credit in order of appearance, and a big thank you to them: Julia (@julikahuli), Celine (@branouche), Stacey (@curlymoon_crochet), Mia (@mightystargazer), Casie (@crafts_by_casie), Lorna, Haylee (@hhhxoart), Marilyn (@fish_marilyn) and Jessica (@jessica.lake.547).

I hope you have a lot of fun with this pattern and I can’t wait to see your projects. Please post your WIPs and your finished models, and tag me @Projectarian! Use #BeamTheRainbowMonitor to browse others’ pics and include your own.

See you again soon for the next project!
